The Lantern Festival of China can be traced back to the period of Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty. According to legend, Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty designated the 15th day of the first lunar month as the Lantern to commemorate the suppression of the Zhulu Rebellion, and the night was called Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour). Emperor Wen of Han deeply felt that a peaceful and prosperous era was not easy to come by, so he designated the 15th day of the first lunar month, which was to quell the "Zhulu Rebellion," as a day of joy with the people. Every household in the capital city hung lanterns and colorful decorations to celebrate. In addition, the Lantern Festival is also related to the Taoist concept of "Shang Yuan". The 15th day of the first lunar month is called the "Shangyuan Festival", which is the first full moon night in a year.

The customs of the Lantern Festival are rich and colorful, mainly including watching lanterns, eating rice dumpling, guessing riddles, setting off fireworks, dragon and lion dances, and walking on stilts.
